Remembrance Day

Posted by CIEIRMusic - November 11th, 2021

Where America has both Veteran's Day and Memorial Day, today we Canadians as well as other members of the Commonwealth have Remebrance Day. November 11 is where we give remembrance to those that fought in the first two world wars. Some survived and lived full lives others died and were given memorials both on the battlefield and in their place of birth. To celebrate their sacrifice we donate to the Legion and in return wear the symbol of both peace and the fallen: The Poppy. Inspired by the poem "In Flanders Fields." By Lieutenant-Colonel John McCrae.

Over the years though, I've noticed a huge pattern of disrespect among some people. Just over a decade ago, some jerk decided to steal one of the Poppy boxes. Knowing full well where the donation money was going. Now Canada is a free country. If you don't believe in this holiday and believe in a lot of things regarding the negative side of war, I do not blame you for one bit. But to go as far as try to destroy it for those that do believe in it. Families who lost one of their own and want a moment to honour them, Veterans who sacrificed life and limb to give the very freedoms, most people take for granted. Those that treat them like dirt by actions like this, do not get sympathy from me. There are better ways to protest even if I don't agree with it and it makes those who simply want to boycott it, look bad by comparison.

Other than that I wish everyone well and like every other event in history never forget. In fact "Lest We Forget." Is the motto of this day.
